Green Dot Public Schools Awards Medi-Cal Billing Contract to Accelify

May 17, 2010

May 17, 2010 — Accelify, LLC (Accelify) is pleased to announce that it has been selected by Green Dot Public Schools (Green Dot) in Los Angeles, California to p rovide products and services for its Medi-Cal Administrative Activities (MAA) program.

Green Dot was founded in 1999 by Steven Barr, whose mission was to transform secondary education in Los Angeles and prove that students who fail in overcrowded, low-performing public schools can thrive in smaller charter schools.  The accomplishments to date are impressive: Green Dot now operates 18 schools in LA and is currently working on two school transformation projects with Jefferson High School and Locke High School.

“Green Dot Public Schools has made remarkable progress and has provided hundreds of the highest need students with the opportunity to succeed,” says Alex Brecher, COO, Accelify. “We are excited to be working with Green Dot on its MAA program because we believe that our technology and services will result in significant Medi-Cal reimbursements, which will help Green Dot continue in its important mission of transforming troubled schools into successful charter schools.”

Budget cuts are affecting schools districts across the country, and publicly-funded Green Dot schools are no exception. California is facing a $20 billion deficit and will likely put forward significant budget cuts to K-12 education for the 2010-11 school year. The upcoming school year also brings the end of one-time federal stimulus dollars, provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“In these challenging fiscal times, we have a responsibility to our students and staff to pursue reimbursements for all expenses incurred serving our special needs population” says Ken Zeff, COO, Green Dot Public Schools.  “We are confident that Accelify has the tools, expertise and determination to ensure that Green Dot receives its full share of Medi-Cal reimbursement.”

Medicaid/Medi-Cal reimbursements are a widely untapped revenue source for school districts. Many districts only claim 1/3 to 1/2 of their available reimbursements. While the claiming process can seem onerous, working with an established vendor may provide an easy and cost-effective solution.

The recently passed national health care legislation is expected to increase the number of Medicaid/Medi-Cal-eligible students by about 27%. This provides districts with an even greater opportunity to increase their federal reimbursement revenue at a time when state and local funding is in crisis.
