Former Executive Director of the Governor’s Committee on Education Excellence, Stephen Blake, Joins Accelify’s CA Board of Advisors
September 27, 2010
Accelify is pleased to announce that former Executive Director of The Governor’s Committee on Education Excellence, Stephen Blake, is the newest addition to the company’s California Board of Advisors. Blake has been involved in public education in the state of California for more than twenty years, and he is currently the principal of Stephen Blake and Associates, which provides fiscal and policy consultation services for education enterprises and others, and provides financial development services to non-profit, government, and private entities.
“Stephen Blake is a tremendous force in the education community,” said Alex Brecher, COO, Accelify. “Throughout his career in the public and private sectors he has been a leader and advocate for a range of educational issues, including school financing and improving education policy development. Stephen’s achievements are triumphs for education, and we couldn’t be happier to have him on board as we work towards our common goal of improving K-12 education in California though increasing fiscal resources for schools.”
Stephen Blake was appointed as the Executive Director of the Governor’s Committee on Education Excellence in April 2006. He served as policy advisor and was responsible for all planning and operations of the Committee. Prior to his gubernatorial appointment, he served as Chief Consultant to California’s Joint Legislative Committee to Develop a Master Plan for Education. Before joining the legislature, Blake served as a legislative advocate and policy analyst for California State University and the California Department of Education. Blake has a baccalaureate degree in Moral and Political Philosophy from Princeton University.
Blake joins former State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Delaine Eastin; former Assembly Member, Marilyn Brewer; former California Education Secretary and Assemblywoman, Kerry Mazzoni; former Senator, Dede Alpert; and former Indiana Attorney General, Jeff Modisett on the Board of Advisors.
Accelify’s California Board of Advisors plays an important role in helping the company stay at the forefront of educational and Medi-Cal related issues in t he state. The members’ diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise provide insight and guidance on legal matters, state and federal Medi-Cal guidelines, school administration, the political climate, and other issues that affect California districts. The board members’ insight is especially valuable in these times of increasing budgetary constraints, and Accelify is committed to providing the highest level of service in order to help school districts and local education agencies simplify the claiming process and receive their full shares of Medi-Cal reimbursement revenues.
With state and local funding in crisis, the onus is on school districts to make budgets work. Despite this, the Medi-Cal program remains a widely untapped funding source, and many districts are claiming just 1/3 to 1/2 of their available reimbursements. As the recently passed national health care legislation is expected to increase the number of Medicaid/Medi-Cal-eligible students by about 27%, this is an ideal time for districts to explore new ways to maximize their programs, and increase their reimbursement revenue.
Accelify is currently working with a number of districts in California including Sweetwater Union High School District, the largest high school district in the country, Green Dot Public Schools, and Travis Unified School District. In just its first quarter, Accelify has increased Sweetwater’s Medi-Cal program participation by more than 25%, ensured more than 90% participation in Green Dot, and achieved 100% participation for Travis.
