Former Assembly Member Marilyn Brewer Joins Accelify Board of Advisors
June 28, 2010
Los Angeles, CA — Accelify is proud to announce that former Assembly member, Marilyn Brewer has joined Accelify’s California Board of Advisors. Brewer represented California’s 70th Assembly District from 1994 to 2000, and is currently a member of the Little Hoover Commission on California State Government Organization and Economy.
Marilyn is a highly respected leader and founding chair of both the Orange County Coalition of Comprehensive Mental Health Services and Women in Leadership. She has been involved in education issues as a longtime donor to the Marily n C. Brewer Scholarship in Cal State Fullerton’s College of Education.
“We are honored to have such a strong advocate for children and government efficiency,” said Alex Brecher, COO of Accelify. "Accelify is committed to improving the lives of children and bringing value-added programs to school districts, and Marilyn has demonstrated a passion for both through her experience as a public policy leader in California.”
In these challenging fiscal times, school executives are looking to pursue reimbursements for all expenses incurred serving the special needs population. Accelify works with schools in California and across the nation to ensure that they receive their full share of Medi-Cal revenues. Medicaid/Medi-Cal reimbursements are a widely untapped funding source for school districts. Many districts only claim 1/3 to 1/2 of their available reimbursements. The recently passed national health care legislation is expected to increase the number of Medicaid/Medi-Cal-eligible students by about 27%. This provides districts with an even greater opportunity to increase their federal reimbursement revenue at a time when state and local funding is in crisis.
“I am excited to be joining a team of experienced professionals who share the same ideals for government efficiency and education that I have advocated throughout my career," Brewer said. "I look forward to helping school districts recoup the federal funds they are entitled to while also furthering Accelify’s mission of accelerating the future of children nationwide.”
Accelify is currently working with a number of schools in California including Sweetwater Union High School District, the largest high school district in the country. In the first quarter of effort Accelify increased participation by more t han 25% while reducing the district’s personnel workload significantly. Accelify is also working with Green Dot Public Schools in Los Angeles to provide products and services for its Medi-Cal Administrative Activities (MAA) program. In the first quarter of service Accelify was able to ensure greater than 90% participation. More recently, Accelify was selected by Travis Unified School District and has increased participation to 100%.
