Aleita J. Huguenin Joins Accelify’s California Board of Advisors

October 12, 2010

Accelify is proud to announce the addition of Aleita J. Huguenin to the California Board of Advisors. Currently working at Aleita & Partners Consulting, and a long-time member of the Democratic National Committee, Aleita is the latest leader to join Accelify in its efforts to help school districts maximize their Medi-Cal reimbursement revenue.

“Aleita is a powerful political force with a solid track record of fighting to improve the quality of education,” says Alex Brecher, COO, Accelify. “We are thrilled to have someone with her talent join our California Board of Advisors, and we are confident that Aleita’s extensive and varied experience will enhance the efforts of our board in navigating the complexities of Medi-Cal claiming.”

Huguenin worked for over 10 years as a classroom teacher at Mt. Diablo Unified School District, which included four years as President of the Mt. Diablo Education Association. Huguenin left the classroom to work with the California Teachers Association (CTA). In 1987 she became the Governmental Relations Manager for the CTA and spent more than 20 years working in contract bargaining/enforcement for school districts and CTA’s 325,000 members.

As a part of the CTA, Huguenin was involved in a number of major initiative campaigns aimed at changing the political and educational landscape. Among these campaigns were 1998’s Proposition 1A, which increased funding to reduce class sizes and to upgrade community college classrooms in California; and Proposition 49, which was successful in securing funding for after-school programs for children.

Huguenin has also been politically active in the Democratic Party for over 40 years. She has worked with the Contra Costa County Central Committee, the State Democratic Party, and the Senate District Chair, as well as on every presidential campaign since Jimmy Carter’s successful run in 1976. Huguenin has served as Finance Committee Co-Chair, Labor Caucus Secretary (from 1992-2002), and Labor Caucus Vice-Chair (from 2002-2008). She is currently the Western States Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee and was a superdelegate in the 2004 and 2008 presidential primaries.

Accelify’s California Board of Advisors plays an important role in helping the company stay at the forefront of education and Medi-Cal related issues in the state. The members’ diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise provide insight and guidance on industry developments and business strategies as they relate to the complexities of Medi-Cal claiming. Current board members include former State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Delaine Eastin; former Assembly Member, Marilyn Brewer; former California Education Secretary and Assemblywoman, Kerry Mazzoni; former Indiana Attorney General, Jeff Modisett; and former Executive Director of the Governor’s Committee on Education Excellence, Stephen Blake.

With state and local funding in crisis, school executives are looking to pursue all possible reimbursements for expenses incurred serving their special needs students. Yet even though districts are entitled to Medi-Cal reimbursements this program remains a widely untapped resource, with many districts claiming just 1/3 to 1/2 of their available reimbursements. As the recently passed national health care legislation is expected to increase the number of Medicaid/Medi-Cal-eligible students by about 27%, this is an ideal time for districts to explore new ways to maximize their programs, and increase their reimbursement revenue.
