Accelify Hosts Inaugural California Board of Advisors Event

Today Accelify, LLC will formally welcome its California Board of Advisors by bringing together for the first time the eight distinguished members of the board with Accelify executives and representatives from California’s public schools. The mission of the event is to chart a course for Accelify’s future contributions to education in the state.

As the first formal gathering of the Board of Advisors, guests will have an opportunity to meet one another, share ideas, and learn more about Accelify’s operations in California and other states.  “The scope of the achievements of these eight individuals, along with their unrelenting commitments to improving education standards in California is remarkable,” said Accelify COO, Alex Brecher. “We are extremely fortunate that they have chosen to share their insights and expertise with us.” The focus of the event will be on initiating discourse about achievable solutions for improving school funding and enhancing the quality of education in California.

The l uncheon and wine tasting will feature keynote presentations from board members and Accelify executives. California board member Delaine Eastin will be presenting on the current state of education in California; Accelify national board member Dr Terry Stewart will speak about educational issues related to school-based Medicaid claiming in his home state of Missouri;  Accelify VP of Field Operations Derek Abraham  and COO Alex Brecher will discuss Accelify’s successes in increasing  Medicaid/Medi-Cal reimbursements for school districts; and Brecher will also speak about the challenges and successes that lie ahead as Accelify expands its Medi-Cal-related services in California.

Accelify established a California Board of Advisors to draw from the knowledge of leaders in education, politics, and business. Board members, all of whom have been active in education issues, hold a wealth of experience that they are excited to share with Accelify as the company increases its presence in the state. The board comprises the following eight notable individuals:

Dede Alpert, a former member of the California state legislature, authored numerous pieces of landmark legislation that established new educational standards nationwide. She currently serves on the boards of Sharp Healthcare, the Girard Foundation, Price Charities, and Gompers Preparatory Academy, a charter school in San Diego.

Stephen Blake has been an active force in California public education for more than 20 years, having served in multiple roles as a policy analyst and legislative advocate. He began his career in education with the California Department of Education’s Governmental Affairs Office and is currently the principal of Stephen Blake and Associates, a firm that provides fiscal and policy consultation services for education enterprises.

Marilyn Brewer co-founded the C. Brewer Company with her husband in 1965; 30 years later she was elected to public office representing California’s 70th Assembly District. In 2006 Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed her to the Little Hoover Commission, an independent state oversight agency, and she is the founding chair of both the Orange County Coalition of Comprehensive Mental Health Services and Women in Leadership.

Delaine Eastin is the first and only woman to serve as California state superintendent of public instruction. During her two terms (1995-2003) she reduced class size, strengthened state standards, improved school accountability, and led California to be the first state to embrace Team Nutrition, a USDA program supporting improvements in nutrition in school lunches. Delaine also served four terms in the State Assembly beginning in November 1986 and was chair of the Assembly Committee on Education.

Dr. Sandy Gilbert, Ed.D. recently retired from the Desert Sands Unified School District with 39 years of experience as an education professional. She has served as a commissioner on the California State Commission on Special Education and continues to teach as an adjunct professor in several subjects, including special education, at the University of California, Riverside.

Aleita J. Huguenin began her career as a classroom teacher in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District. She has spent over 30 years as a prominent member of the Democratic National Party, including being a super delegate in the 2004 and 2008 Democratic presidential primaries.

Kerry Mazzoni, who was California secretary of education from 2000-2003, was the governor’s chief advisor on education policy during that time. Known as one of the state’s foremost experts on education, she has also earned a reputation for expertise in other public policy areas including health care, transportation, and energy. Mazzoni currently works for Government Strategies, Inc. and serves on the boards of numerous local non-profits.

Jeff Modisett is a highly-respected attorney in Los Angeles who advises high profile companies like GlaxoSmithKline, Oracle, and Facebook on complex legal issues. He was Indiana’s attorney general from 1996-2000 and is currently the managing partner of Bryan Cave, LLP.
