School Worried About Losing More State Money
September 30, 2010
State school money can sometimes disappear, like magic, andat other times may take other forms.
One disappearing act that Business Manager Denise Evans and the school board ismost concerned about involves grant funds.
Evans explained one instance where the state is discussing reducing thedistrict’s state funding allocations by the same amount they receive in sometypes of federal funding or grants.
“Very scary,” she said.
It is a way for the state to seize federal funding without really violating thelaw.
In good news, the district hopes to be receiving Sudden Growth Funds this fall. Those funds are made available to school to help pay for the costs ofunexpected students growth.
Other good news came during the bond report. It was noted that the new lockerrooms and concession area should be completed in time for Homecoming week.
