School Funding Promises Halted by State (LA)

It’s a big number: 147 million dollars of stimulus money for the state ofLouisiana was to be allocated down to the local level.  That money frommany parishes was going to be used to reinstated programs cut by budget woesand keep jobs from being slashed.  In a sudden turn of events, theGovenor’s office has pulled back on that decision and is going to be using it forother purpose not explained fully at the moment. 

Bossier Parish Superintendent D.C. Machen tells KSLANews 12 he had no idea that he would be getting this devastating news.  Hesays the Bossier School Board had plans for that money that will now be put onhold.  Caddo Parish Superintendent Dr. Dawkins also tells KSLA News 12he’s upset with this decision and that it hurts the students because hisadministration can’t come through on the promises they made. 

The f inal decision on this stimulus money beingrescinded will be made next week in Baton Rouge.
