Updates to OT and PT Procedure Codes
December 15, 2016
Effective January 1, 2017, Common Procedural Terminology (CPT) Codes for Occupational and Physical Therapy evaluations will be replaced by new codes that describe differences in the complexity of evaluations, ranging from low (straigthforward), to moderate (involved), to high (very complex) as detailed below. The new system is designed to capture more holistic and comprehensive evaluations for OT and PT.

Accelify has released the following memos with guidance regarding these changes and how to select the appropriate code when documenting evaluations. Note, providers documenting evaluations in AcceliTRACK will no longer be able to enter in the old codes for evaluations dated after January 1, 2017, but you will still be able to use the old code for any evaluation dated December, 31, 2016 and earlier.
In addition to Accelify’s guidance, we encourage providers to review the guidance issued by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
