March 16, 2018

This week’s round up includes several big education policy stories. Our featured article spotlights the Florida education bill that includes a new voucher program for victims of bullying by offering them up to $6,800/year for tuition costs at a private school. However, educators are split on the consequences of this initiative. On Wednesday, students and educators nationwide walked out of their classrooms for 17 minutes in a powerful display of civic activism marking one month since the Parkland, FL shooting. From the legislative end, the House of Representatives passed the STOP School Violence Act, which intends to grant funding to train teachers and school staff in violence prevention. In other news, a teacher shares what he’s learned about students and their social and academic pressures, a kindergarten teacher’s mental-health reading list went viral, and a host of medical schools are training students to be better prepared to treat the needs of those with disabilities. All that and more in this week’s AcceliBEAT!
